Wisdom Teeth Extraction in Rancho Bernardo & 4S Ranch
What are wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt in the back of the mouth behind permanent molars. While some people will have these teeth grow in normally, a large number of patients do not have the room in their mouth to support wisdom teeth. This can lead to impaction, overcrowding in the mouth, infection, and pain. A simple X-Ray can determine if your mouth can support wisdom teeth or not and if treatment is right for you.
If your wisdom teeth do erupt, this typically occurs in your teens or twenties, which is why many dentists recommend early removal. Your wisdom teeth are not necessary and removal will not cause any problems with your oral functions, such as chewing.
How are wisdom teeth removed?
Wisdom teeth removal is considered a surgical procedure and is done under local or general anesthesia. Our team will make sure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure by giving you medications to eliminate pain and anxiety.
During the treatment, Dr. Hekmat will make incisions to carefully remove the teeth. The procedure is very fast and typically takes under an hour.
After your treatment, we will give you comprehensive instructions on how to care for your mouth. Most patients are able to return to normal activities such as eating solid foods, work, and exercise within a few days.
